The minimum storage rental period is one month. You may use your storage unit for less than a month. However, you still have to pay for the full month.

  • How long can I stay?

There's absolutely no limit on how long you can store with us, short-term or long-term. Some of our customers have been with us for years and years.

  • What do I do when I want to move out?

All we ask for is two weeks' notice when you want to vacate your unit. Contact your facility. Please notify us if anything changes during this period.

  • What security features do you have?

    CCTV
We’ve got CCTV cameras all around our facility with live-stream screens in the main office.

    Electric-perimeter fencing
These fences are a powerful anti-intruder measure and we’ve got them at all of our facilities.

    Coded gates
When you sign up for self storage, you’ll be asked to choose a 5 digit pin number, which you’ll need to enter each time you arrive at or leave the facility. When you drive up to the gate, you need to enter * and then your private pin number followed by #.

    For example *12345#

Only then will the alarm on your unit or units be disarmed and the gate open. You also need to enter this code at the exit gate when leaving, it will re-engage the alarms on your unit(s).

    Individually-alarmed units
Every unit is alarmed and becomes disarmed when you enter your code at the entry gate and when you exit the facility, you are required to enter your code again. If you skip this step, when you attempt to unlock your unit, the alarm will be sounded and if this happens out of office hours, you might incur a call-out fee from our security company.

For this reason do not tail gate people arriving at or leaving the facility without entering the pin and dont leave people on site when you exit, they may set off your unit alarm

We have inspections by drug dogs at least twice a year at all of our facilities.

  • Do I need Insurance?

If it's worth storing, it's worth insuring. Although thankfully the chances of damage to your belongings while they’re in self storage are small, it is still highly advisable to take out insurance on them. First things first, if you’re storing items from your home, check your current home contents insurance policy to see whether the items are covered when they are away from your property and for how long they will be covered. Not all policies cover this but some do so it’s worth checking this first.

One thing to bear in mind however if your policy does cover your contents when they are away from home, is that you might have to give them notice that you’re moving the items, and wait for this to be approved before you can actually do it.

Kiwi Self Storage offer really good value, tailored insurance that you can purchase on site when you sign up for storage. It’s on-the-spot cover with no long forms to fill in, no having to wait on the phone to speak to an insurance company and no call centres. It’s as simple as ticking a box, and depending on how much insurance cover you need, it may cost as little as a cup of coffee per month. Plus, this is often a lot simpler than trying to extend your current coverage and keeps things separate. If you do choose to go with our insurance, you don’t need to worry about the policy expiring because as long as you’re storing with us, your items will be insured.

Once your belongings are stored and insured you can visit them at anytime, just like at home, with the same piece of mind.

If you have any questions about it, our friendly staff are on hand to answer them for you. Give them a call on 0800 58 57 56 or visit our website for more information about self storage.

  • What does 'On Site' manager or custodian mean?

'On Site' means that there is a person living on site who is able to quickly respond to events that may occur outside normal business hours. They ensure the facility is secure and that all security systems are working correctly.

  • Can I share my PIN code with couriers, removal companies or staff and relatives

No. You must not share your code with anyone else.

Anyone with the code can access the facility and deactivate the alarm for your storage unit. This means you no longer have control over access to the unit and have compromised the security of others storing at the site.

Other than courier pickups or drop offs, you need to be onsite to grant access to your unit to removal companies, truck drivers or others. We can provide additional codes to nominated persons, but these should be strictly limited. You will need to complete a 'Third Party Agreement' form at your storage facility office to obtain these.

Please contact your facility for assistance.
